0-3 Months: Palmer's Life

Trying to remember back to when Palmer was just new is harder than I thought. The time has gone by so quickly, I mean, 5 months already. It’s like time was in super fast forward!

For this post, I am going to clump months 0-3 all into one (because I don’t have time to do each month individually and because that’s how it is in the baby book and that’s how I remember it. Sad, I know!)

2 months old: 10lbs 12 oz, 21 1/4 inches

Sleep:
For the most part, Palmer has always been a good sleeper. We have never had a problem or struggle with putting her down at bedtime. For the first 3 weeks, she slept in her play yard in our bedroom, waking every 2-3 hours to eat (typical newborn). For most of the first few weeks, she slept most of the day and night, usually only waking to feed. Around the 2 month mark, a typical night was bed at 11:00pm, wake (on average) once through the night around 3 or 4:00am to eat then work for the day between 7:00am or 8:00am. Perfect!

New Skills and Development:
The dates and such have become such a blur to me. There are so many new and exciting things that happened that getting them all written down just didn’t happen (something that I’m hoping will change with starting the blog!) At 3 weeks, Palmer started holding her head up. Sometimes she still looked like she had the bobble-head thing going on, but she got stronger every day! At 6 weeks (March 5), she was able to hold her head up for about 2 minutes at a time!

Palmer started “cooing” and really starting to “tell stories” around the 7 week mark. Her first real smiles were around this time and at 2 months, she began her squealing laugh. Of course, this wasn’t a real laugh but we knew it meant she was happy!
At 8.5 weeks (March 23), Palmer was able to roll front to back while propped up on a pillow and on March 25, she rolled over (front to back) while on the floor.
She began sitting up in her Bumbo chair and standing on our laps (with support of course), but we could definitely tell she was getting stronger.

Palmer’s Favorites:
Some of her favorite things were her swing. She would often fall asleep while in her swing, which meant I was able to get a little bit of housework done. We also picked up a play mat from this great used kid/baby store, New2UKids, and she loved that thing, especially the lights and sounds it made!
She really loves going for walks. I think the motion of the stroller (and even being in the car) soothes her! There is rarely a time when we go for a walk or a ride in the car that she doesn’t fall asleep!

Palmer first went swimming on April 11th and had a great time. She loves to splash in the water, and LOVES having a bath!

Our Thoughts:
Rewards – Palmer is such a happy baby. She really doesn’t fuss much at all and is constantly smiling! It is so rewarding to see her growing and developing. It’s so amazing to see her reach each milestone. Her sleeping habits are awesome too. Everyone (for the most part) is able to sleep enough, which makes the days that much better!
Struggles: Obviously with Mitch working so much its hard on all of us. I feel bad that he doesn’t get to spend as much time with her as he would like. It was also taxing on me some days. Really, getting no “me time” all day was hard, but then realizing, she is not going to be little forever and taking in all that time with her - yes, maybe it was hard that day, but I’ll cherish that time later when she’s not little anymore!
