Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday for us was pretty chill. Mitch and I both worked Friday, which ended off our long work weeks, so we kept pretty quiet Friday night. We went for a bike ride in the evening, and we were all in bed by 10pm! I needed to get a good sleep for my race on Saturday.

Saturday morning, I had my race, you can read about it here, and Mitch golfed. Then we did some house and yard work, followed by dinner and some much-needed well-deserved drinks at the in-laws!!

And once again, I was home early, in laying in bed, enjoying the book I have been trying to read for the past 3 weeks.

SIDENOTE:  I don't know about you, but I find it very difficult to sit down and read with a toddler!?! I can't read while shes awake...Palmer is like a little magician, I swear! She is now getting herself out of the highchair and standing up on the tray, so I can just imagine then things she would do if we didn't have our eyes on her for 2 minutes! And not only that, I wouldn't be able to concentrate enough to get through more than a page or two, I'm sure...I'd be re-reading the same sentences over and over!

Today was a good day! Mitch headed out early for another round of golf while Palmer and I enjoyed some breakfast, cartoons, and relaxing around the house. Around noon, the two of us headed downtown for some Father's Day shopping, then headed to the golf course for lunch and to watch Daddy come in from golf.

Then, we headed to Home Depot for a few things, and home to enjoy this beautiful weather with sprinklers...

Our Weekend in a Nutshell

Mitchell finished up his school on Thursday so he celebrated with his school friends Thursday by golfing, coming to the house to play poker and heading out for a few drinks.

This was kind of like a long weekend for us in that we both didn't work Friday so we got to spend the day together as a family. It was a pretty relaxed Friday. It was decently nice out so we were able to go for a family walk to the Tim Horton's down the street for some coffees and timbits.  We finished Friday with a movie, Anchorman 2 (which was not nearly as good as we anticipated it to be. In fact, we both fell asleep and didn't watch it all!)

Friday evening I had a call from work saying there were 3 shifts that needed to be filled, night, days and another night the next day. Since I hadn't worked all week and it was OT for me, I opted to go in for Saturday day shift. It turned out to be not bad. We had initially wanted to get out for a bike ride and maybe golfing that day, but good old Southern Alberta pulled though again with snow! April 26th! There was even a snowfall warning of 10-20 cm! Luckily though, we didn't get near that much! After work, I headed to the in-laws house for dinner and we finished our night off again with a movie at home. This time it was much better than Friday night. We watched Wolf of Wall Street. Good movie, but quite long!

Today, Palmer graced us with a sleep in day. I think we all rolled out of bed around 9:15 or so! It was wonderful! We headed downtown for brunch at Ricki's (our favourite breakfast spot!) and it was delicious, as usual. We followed this with a trip to one of our favourite stores, Costco!

Palmer and I both had a nap after shopping, we played outside for a bit, then Mitchell cooked up some delicious meatloaf and baked potatoes. Yum! Palmer cleaned up her plate for supper, which doesn't happen too often! We finished up our evening with a quick family run, all 4 of us.

Now, to get back to reality tomorrow. Mitch starts his new job, I'm back to work, and Palmer is back to the day home.

Another Snow Day

Today was the last day of my week off from work and of course, it snowed. So we took "advantage" of the snow, weathered the cold, and took Palmer out for her first sled ride! This was actually the first time in the nearly 9 years Mitch and I have been together that we went tobogganing!

Yes, it was cold, but all 4 of us seemed to have a good time! I'm sure there will be plenty more sled riding this winter!

Weekend Wrap-Up (on Tuesday) and Palmer's Playroom

Like the past several Thanksgiving weekend, we headed down to Whitefish, MT to spend some time shopping, golfing (Mitch) and getting away for a few days.

We were lucky enough to get to spend a couple days with my mom before we started our mini-vacay and lucky to have her spend the weekend here dog-sitting for us! AND, we came home to some delicious
 turkey dinner (my favorite!!).

Friday we made the drive down to Whitefish. As much as I don't enjoy riding in the truck for so long, the drive really is beautiful!  I tried to capture some pictures, but attempting to take photos while riding in a truck is difficult!

||Saturday|| & ||Sunday||
The girls spent the days shopping and touring Whitefish and Kalispell while the boys did their golfing.

 

||Monday||
We made a quick trip to Kalispell for some speed shopping then had to start the drive back home as I had to work at 3pm. Like Palmer, I too was worn out after the weekend!

Weekend Wrap-Up (in Photos)

We spent the weekend away in Saskatchewan, camping with my parents. We got there Friday to some gorgeous 30+ degree weather. Saturday was kind of a bummer because it was a little windy, too windy to go to the beach, but Leaf still had fun swimming in the River. The weekend ended today with us getting home around 4:30pm. Just in time to make supper, go for a family walk, pack lunch for tomorrow, and will be catching up on our usual Sunday TV (breaking bad and Big Brother).

Weekend Wrap-Up and Blogging Overload

This weekend we kept pretty close to home - nothing to major happened at all. This being my last weekend of maternity leave, I wanted to enjoy family as much as possible.

Mitchell was playing in a golf tournament over the course of 3 days, but was still home enough to enjoy some family swimming in the backyard, some froster-swirls from Mac's and a walk around the lake.

Other than that, I really have just been trying to get the house in order for my return to work in less than 20 hours!!!  And, trying to get rid of all these pesky fruit flies we have accumulated over the past few days/weeks??  (I created a contraption to capture them - I will spare your the grossness and save myself the embarrassment and not show you a picture. Instead, I will post this one: )

We had a delicious supper last night - homemade burgers and homemade fries. So yummy! Getting in another good BBQ before summer turns to fall!

This morning, we all slept in - until 9am!! It was super-fantastic! Despite Palmer being up a couple times in the night, just needing a cuddle (which has never happened before), it was a great sleep! I always love getting to sleep in!

Then we all enjoyed some pancakes for breakfast! Palmer seemed like she enjoyed her first taste of them!!

With all that being said, now that I am going back at work full-time and my time with my family will be decreased, the amount of blogging done will decrease, but I think this will be good. It will get me back to why I started blogging in the first place; to share stories of our little family with our family and friends, near and far. I think for awhile, I got too deep into blogging, finding new things to blog about daily, even several times a day, which watered down my posts. 

While Palmer was napping, I would blog. 

While she was in bed, I would blog. 

While she was spending time with Mitchell, yup, you guessed it, I would blog. 

The more I blogged, the less personal I got. I truly think people enjoy reading about Palmer and our family and the various things that happen in our lives, but I cannot share every life event on this blog. And now, between enjoying my family and working full time, I simply cannot put so much time into my "hobby." My initial intention for this blog was for it to be a casual place to share memories and thoughts, not the two or three times a day posts that it has become!

Of course, I will continue to post, sharing pictures and stories - just getting back to the reasons I started this blog in the first place. 

Weekend Wrap-Up

My mom came up again this weekend for a visit and to watch Palmer while Mitch and I had a few things to do. 

Friday started with me giving blood. It was only my 2nd time because after my first time, there was always a reason why i couldn't donate again for awhile (going away to Mexico, being pregnant, etc). As a nurse, I know how much blood can help a person, and being O negative (the rarest type at 7% of the population but the universal blood type in which anyone can have), I know how much more my blood type can help!

Friday evening, Mitch and I headed over to Whoop-Up Days. I had never been before, so with free tickets to get in the gates and a free baby sitter, why not go? I think the fair was much better when I was younger and went on the rides. Mitch and I wandered up the Midway a few times, stopped for an elephant ear, some mini dounts and a lemonade, and made our way over to the stage. The band was just OK. We sat for a few songs then made our way to play some games. Mitchell ended up winning a stuffed monkey, which we gave to Palmer!

Saturday, Mom and I went to a garage sale down the street and got Palmer 2 new toys! They light up and play music - her favorite kind!!

Then, Mitchell and I, along with Candice (Mitchell's sister) and her fiance, played in a golf tournament. We have played in this tournament for quite a few years now and have always done fairly well. Last year, we were even one point off of winning the entire thing. Not this year. This year we I sucked BIG TIME! I'm going to blame my awful golf play on only playing a few rounds this year! This was the first year we didn't win a prize...one point off. And it all came down to my drive on the last hole, which I hit out of bounds, costing us 2 strokes! UGH! Terrible! 

Saturday was the longest I had ever been away from Palmer - 11 hours! Grandma said she was such a good girl though (I'm not surprised) and I think it was good for me too; practice for when I go back to work next week.

Sunday we did some yard work, played with Aunty Candice, played another round of golf while we had a free babysitter, then caught up on our Sunday night shows, Breaking Bad and Big Brother!
